NOT a bug – NOT an outdated acronym – A tribute to the women who flew planes long before Title IX protected girls’ rights to play sports!
GOAL:
Develop a unique and stand out visual identity for the new Professional Women's Hockey Team in Seattle that has a connection to the culture and history of Seattle.
HISTORY LESSON:
Women Airforce Service Pilots -> W.A.S.P.
During WWII, the W.A.S.P.s were the first women to fly U.S. military aircraft. They were civilian pilots who trained other pilots and tested new aircraft. They flew many Boeing planes including the B17 Flying Fortress and B29 Superfortress.
The Seattle Wasp brand is all about honoring the city’s aviation roots and the fearless women who helped shape it. With bold visuals and a strong potential for building on the brand identity, it brings something fresh and meaningful to the Seattle sports scene and to the PWHL.
